John Wise Public School 2024-2025 Safe and Inclusive School Plan

A diagram of the essential conditions for learning

Our school is committed to providing all students with a safe, caring, and inclusive learning environment free from bullying and harassment that promotes respect, acceptance, and empathy.

Staff, students, parents and caregivers, and community partners will work together as a team to help make our school safe and welcoming for everyone.

The Safe and Inclusive School Plan highlights some of the key actions that our school community will put in place as part of our bullying prevention and intervention efforts.

Key Priorities and Goals

This year we are focusing on student well-being and healthy relationships to ensure that all students feel accepted and represented in our walls, halls and work.

We are doing this to see improvement in student well-being through their connections and interactions with peers, staff and community members and to establish a learning community focused on positive relationships and restorative resolution strategies.

Key Actions or Strategies

  • Develop culturally safe learning environment that affirms and develops healthy relationships through the intentional implementation of embedding the essential conditions for learning.

  • Through co-regulation and sharing our calm, staff model how to self-regulate emotions and develop successful coping strategies for a variety of situations with students

  • Support student well-being by listening, believing and acting to validate student experiences and ensuring they feel they are valued and supported.

Community and Home Connections

  • Ask your child about what their preferred break activity is when they are dysregulated or in need of finding their calm.

  • Try identifying emotions and using different strategies to regulate emotions at home with your child.

  • Check out this resource http://smho-smso.ca/emhc/ for more calming and coping strategies.
